Ayurveda – A way of life


We are the people of the 21st Century, a symbol of modernism & technology. With the advancement in technology, our lifestyles, the way we work, the means of communications etc. have changed manifolds. Though, most of these changes are for our betterment but still in spite of this advancements, there are some old learnings which are still more affective and powerful.

If you don’t agree on that, then let’s take an example. Ever thought, why our forefathers lived a much healthier life even though they never had any of the modern day facilities that could make their life easy. It is because they followed the rules of nature, which made them physically and mentally healthier than us.

Ayurveda, is one such learning which is of great use in our today’s life full of complexities and competition. The study of Ayurveda originated more than five thousand years back from two Sanskrit words Ayur (life) and Veda (science). Ayurveda is a holistic lifestyle system that through Meditation (dhyana), Pranayama (breathing techniques) and Yogasanas (Yoga Posture) teaches the practical details of how to arrange for the body, viz its food, body work and rest periods. Hence, it aims to achieve balance of body, mind, and soul.


The rules mentioned in Ayurveda still holds true. Here are some rules of Ayurveda which we can use in our daily life for our holistic development of mind, body and soul.


Connect with your Soul

We are so busy in the daily chores of the modern life that we almost have no time for ourselves. Therefore, it is most important to take out time and connect with one’s own self. You may do this through ‘Meditation’ or ‘Dhyana’ at least for 15 min every day.


Contact with Nature

One should spend some time in the fresh air in the morning. You may do this by walking barefoot on grass. The early morning dew is really good for health.


Right sleeping Habits

‘Early to bed, early to rise, makes you healthy, wealthy and wise’, to add on this – a relaxing sleep of at least 7-8 hours.


Right eating and drinking habits

The reason we work so hard and earn money is to feed ourselves. But the irony is that in this process, we tend to forget that we need to feed ourselves with the right food, at the right time and in right quantities. Eating Junk Food is just of question.


Keeping body active

Because of the too much stress, people nowadays live in unhealthy physical conditions. They usually think negatively, feel distracted very soon and are reluctant or lazy to do anything. To keep the body active one should make exercise an integral part of the daily regime. This can be in the form of walking, cycling, swimming, gym, aerobics and even dance.


Personal Hygiene

Ensuring personal hygiene is a must. Healthy soul lives in a healthy body, so we need to ensure that we follow the basic jobs of brushing teeth, taking bath every day. Keeping our hair and nails short & neat. Wearing clean clothes as per the season helps keeping our skin protected and safe.


By following these simple things we can build up our immune system and stamina and bring harmony in all our body organs. Hence, bringing a supreme bliss to our soul. Thus, Ayurveda is not just medicine but a healthy lifestyle.
